Zverev storms into US Open semis with straight-sets win over van de Zandschulp

New York, September 10 — Reigning US Open champion Alexander Zverev advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament on Wednesday, defeating the Netherlands' Botic van de Zandschulp 6-2, 7-5, 6-1. The world's top-ranked player, who won his first Grand Slam title at the French Open in June, showed no signs of difficulty as he dominated the match at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The 29-year-old German, a finalist in last year's US Open, will face unseeded Russian Karen Khachanov in the semi-finals on Friday. Zverev, who looked confident after his impressive performance against the 70th-ranked van de Zandschulp, who managed to break twice in the first set but failed to capitalize on the opportunity. The Dutch player made an attempt to equalize when leading 5-4 with a set point but missed a return, allowing Zverev to level the score at 5-5.

Zverev then secured the set with a break in the following game, giving him a 2-0 lead and eventually a 4-1 deficit for van de Zandschulp, which he didn't recover from.
