Zverev storms into semi-finals despite late bedtime

Alexander Zverev secured his spot in the US Open semi-finals on Wednesday night, despite staying up until 3:30am to watch a blockbuster quarter-final match. The top seed overcame Botic van de Zandschulp with a 6-2, 7-5, 6-1 victory at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Zverev revealed he had stayed awake to watch Ben Shelton's win over Carlos Alcaraz, which ended at 03:34 local time.

This marked Zverev's first time reaching all four Grand Slam semi-finals in a single season. He will face Russian Karen Khachanov in the semi-final, who advanced after Alexander Blockx retired due to injuries during his quarter-final match. Zverev, who has won 23 major singles matches this year, is the favorite to win the title, but Khachanov, unseeded since 2018, will need to bring his best form to compete for his first major final.
