Zoomlion rolls out disinfection, disinfestation exercise across Volta Region

Zoomlion Ghana Limited has pledged to use its resources to address health risks stemming from recent floods in the Volta Region. Mr Emmanuel Amemakalor, the Volta Regional Manager, confirmed this commitment during a four-hour disinfection and disinfestation exercise at the Ho Central Market last Wednesday. The initiative, carried out in partnership with the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC), aims to cover all 18 municipalities and districts in the region and is scheduled to conclude on September 19.

Amemakalor stated that while the floods were not as severe as those in other parts of the country, the potential health risks they posed could not be ignored. He explained that the aftermath of flooding could heighten the risk of malaria due to mosquito breeding, as well as spread cholera and other waterborne diseases. The disinfection project extends beyond markets to include lorry parks, schools, and public toilets.

"This exercise is being undertaken free of charge as part of our corporate social responsibility," Amemakalor added. Stella Kumedzro, the Regional Environmental Health Officer, emphasized the importance of timely intervention to eliminate displaced faecal matter and control disease vectors. She urged residents to keep their surroundings clean and adopt good sanitation practices to minimize the risk of disease outbreaks. The initiative was expanded to Hodzo, a community severely impacted by the floods.
