World’s first LNG Carrier Equipped with Wind Challenger- Scheduled for Delivery Under a Long-Term Charter to Chevron in Late September

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. held a naming ceremony on September 10, 2026, at Hanwha Ocean Co., Ltd.'s Geoje Shipyard in South Korea for the world's first LNG carrier equipped with two Wind Challenger units, a Hard sail wind-assisted propulsion system. The vessel, named FUJIN SAILOR, will be delivered under a long-term charter contract to Chevron Corporation at the end of September 2026.

The Wind Challenger system is anticipated to decrease fuel consumption and associated greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional propulsion. The vessel is the world's first LNG carrier equipped with a wind-assisted propulsion system and is also the fourth of eleven MOL Group vessels to have or will have the Wind Challenger.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chevron's President, Supply & Trading, Molly T. Laegeler, emphasized the importance of partnerships and continuous innovation in ensuring a reliable energy supply. MOL's Managing Executive Officer for LNG and Ethane Business, Makoto Inomoto, expressed gratitude to Hanwha Ocean for their technical support and to Chevron for their understanding and cooperation.

The vessel is expected to contribute to the integration of new technologies to support greenhouse gas management in LNG transportation and plays a vital role in ensuring a stable energy supply while reducing the environmental impact of LNG shipping. MOL aims to achieve net-zero GHG emissions by 2050 as part of their "MOL Group Environmental Vision -BLUE ACTION 2035 Phase2-."
