Will Mikel Arteta stay at Arsenal or join FC Barcelona amid interest?

Mikel Arteta has transformed Arsenal’s fortunes since arriving at the club, leading them to their first Premier League title in over two decades. The North London side would surely want the Spaniard to continue his reign at Emirates Stadium. However, interest from other clubs is already brewing to bring the coach to their fold.

Saudi Pro League giants Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr have reached out to assess Arteta’s situation, but the manager reportedly has no intention of leaving Arsenal. The intel also suggests that the 44-year-old has agreed to a new long-term contract with the Gunners, set to expire in September 2024. Arteta took over at Arsenal in 2019, signing a one-year initial extension in September 2024.

While Arteta’s tenure at Arsenal has been fruitful, another major club has also shown interest in the Spaniard. FC Barcelona, who recently extended Hansi Flick’s contract for two more years, view Arteta as a potential replacement for the German. The Catalan club did not pursue the 44-year-old this summer, trusting in Flick’s abilities. However, reports indicate that Barcelona sees Arteta as the future manager of the club.

The coach has had a connection with La Masia since his teenage years, having joined the club’s youth squad while playing for the B team.
