Why North should not vote for Tinubu – Imasuagbon

Ahead of Nigeria's 2027 general election, Barr. Ken Imasuagbon, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has urged northerners to utilize their numerical advantage to unseat the current president, Bola Tinubu. In a recent statement to journalists in Benin, Imasuagbon called for Nigerians to support the ADC's candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to rescue the nation from the ongoing economic crisis.

Atiku, according to Imasuagbon, is the ultimate unifier needed to bridge the deep-seated socio-political divides currently plaguing the country. The ADC candidate's experience, consistency, and reliability have made him a reliable figure in Nigerian politics, and he remains committed to serving Nigerians, said Imasuagbon. He further highlighted Atiku's capacity to effectively address the nation's structural challenges and systemic hardships, including poverty and hunger.

Imasuagbon stressed that a transformative leader like Atiku is essential in breaking the barriers that have hindered Nigeria's progress since independence. One of Atiku's proposed policies, as per the ADC platform, is the reopening of Nigeria's land borders with neighboring countries to foster regional trade and boost West African commerce.

The closure of these borders has adversely affected legitimate businesses and contributed to the rise in food prices, said Imasuagbon. He added that restoring cross-border trade could help ease the cost of goods and services, alleviating the crippling cost-of-living crisis currently facing the nation. Imasuagbon emphasized that Atiku's economic blueprint directly targets this crisis by committing to reversing the fuel subsidy removal implemented by Tinubu's administration.
