Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala and co-accused back in court

The trial within a trial for the attempted murder case of Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala and four co-accused continues in the Johannesburg High Court. The hearing was delayed on Tuesday to allow prosecutors time to review new documents that Musa Kekana, the first accused, intends to present as evidence. Matlala is alleged to have orchestrated three failed assassination attempts against his ex-girlfriend Tebogo Thobejane, businessman Joe Sibanyoni, and music producer Seunkie Mokubung.

The defense for accused number one is expected to submit tracking locations of the police vehicles during Matlala's arrest in 2024 for the alleged murder of Vereeniging Engineer Armand Swart. Chaos ensued between police and some of the accused when officers tried to prevent them from accessing their legal counsel. However, the judge ruled that the accused would be permitted to consult with their attorneys.
