‘Violated party policy’: Bihar Congress notice to 29 rebels amid deepening rift

On September 10, 2026, the Disciplinary Committee of the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee issued show-cause notices to 29 leaders, accusing them of anti-party activities and indiscipline. The action was taken following their participation in a protest against the Bihar Pradesh Congress leadership in New Delhi on September 8, 2026.

Kapildev Prasad Yadav, the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee, stated that the leaders' involvement in the protest violated party policy and demonstrated serious indiscipline. The committee directed the concerned leaders to submit a written explanation within 72 hours, explaining why disciplinary action should not be taken against them.

Failure to provide a satisfactory response could result in unilateral disciplinary action by the committee. The prominent leaders named in the notices include former MLAs Anil Singh and Poonam Devi, as well as Congress leaders Vidhushekhar Pandey, Bharat Bhushan Dubey, Satyendra Yadav, and Mrityunjay Singh. The protest, which took place outside the party headquarters, was organized by a group of Bihar Congress leaders demanding the removal of Krishna Allavaru, the unit in-charge, and Rajesh Kumar, the State President, for their alleged role in the party's poor performance in the state.

AICC member Anand Madhab criticized the disciplinary committee's decision, stating that the protest was peaceful and concluded, with the AICC headquarters assured that the protesters' grievances would be heard. Madhab argued that the committee's actions indicated fear and acknowledged that many former MLAs, district presidents, and senior state leaders oppose the committee's leadership.

The disciplinary committee had previously issued similar notices on November 17, 2025, to 47 leaders for anti-party activities and statements against the party line during the assembly election.
