Universal Music is launching an AI music platform with ElevenLabs

Universal Music Group (UMG) has teamed up with ElevenLabs to introduce an AI-powered platform that enables users to generate remixes, mashups, and novel interpretations of tracks from UMG's extensive catalog. The announcement was made on Thursday. UMG is constructing the platform under a multiyear licensing agreement with ElevenLabs, a firm specialized in AI voice and music generation.

Participation in UMG and ElevenLabs' upcoming platform is optional for artists. This marks yet another AI collaboration for UMG. The company is already developing an AI music platform with Udio and has entered AI licensing agreements with Spotify, Nvidia, and Klay. Recently, Suno unveiled its first AI music model trained on licensed songs from Warner Music Group, BMG, and other music industry partners.

The partnership between UMG and ElevenLabs will encompass the "development of additional products and fan experiences in the months and years to come," though the press release does not provide further specifics about these potential offerings. ElevenLabs CEO Mati Staniszewski stated in the press release that by merging UMG's global community and rights management expertise with ElevenLabs' AI models and products, they will enable artists and songwriters to create impactful new experiences for their fans while ensuring they receive fair compensation.

The new AI music platform will operate independently from ElevenLabs' Music API and ElevenMusic generator.
