Umno Youth chief: Ummah unity agenda poses no threat to non-Malays, non-Muslims

KL - Umno Youth has reassured non-Malays and non-Muslims that their joint ummah unity agenda with Pas does not pose a threat to their rights or identity. Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, chief of Umno Youth, stated that the party is prepared to defend its commitment to the agenda and ensure its benefits extend beyond political debates.

He emphasized that defending Malays does not equate to hostility towards non-Malays, and upholding Islam does not mean denying the rights of followers of other faiths, as Islam promotes fair leadership for all.

Akmal cited Barisan Nasional's history as proof, noting that MCA, MIC, and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah have retained their respective Chinese, Indian, and Bumiputera identities within the coalition. He urged Umno not to be ashamed or fearful of recognizing Pas as another significant Malay-Muslim political force, stating that acknowledging this reality does not diminish Umno's role; instead, it demonstrates their courage in facing reality.

He also highlighted developments in Johor and Negri Sembilan, showing that Umno and Pas can support each other when the ummah's interests are prioritized over rivalry.

However, Akmal emphasized that political unity should not be measured solely by seat numbers, power negotiations, or enthusiasm on the political stage. Instead, it should be judged by tangible improvements in people's lives. He reiterated that unity must extend beyond the political negotiating table and reach the people's dining tables, ensuring what reaches their tables matters more than who sits at the same table.
