Treni storici al fischio di partenza in Campania

Treni storici are now departing from Campania, with a program featuring 35 historic rail journeys between September and December, traversing some of the region's most significant cultural, scenic, and tourist routes. The goal is to encourage visitors to explore the diverse local realities, highlighting their unique identity, heritage, and purposes through historically themed rail mobility.

The initiative, funded by the Campania Regional State Budget (PSC Campania) with €2.7 million, builds upon successful experiences in multiple other endeavors. The program has been consistently well-received, with a 100% reliability rate and an average load factor of 58%, surpassing the national average. The implementation is coordinated by ACaMIR (Campanian Agency for Mobility, Infrastructure, and Networks).

The project aims to transform rail travel into a journey of discovery and learning about Campania, rather than simply a means of reaching a destination. By restoring and enhancing historic locomotives and carriages, such as the "Centoporte" and "Corbellini" from the 1930s and 1950s, the lines connect major cultural attractions, archaeological sites, charming villages, inland areas, and breathtaking landscapes.

Vintage cars including the ALn 668 will operate the Avellino-Rocchetta S. Antonio route. A total of 6,000 seats are available. The mobility strategy ensures last-mile transport via integrated GT buses and encourages cycling by providing free bike transport in the historic train carriages along the routes from Naples to Caserta, Pietrarsa, Pompei, Contursi, and Paestum.

At the launch of the project, Mario Casillo, the Deputy President of the Campania Regional Government responsible for Transport, Mobility, and Sea, Vincenzo Maraio, the regional assessor for Tourism, Promotion of the Territory and Digital Transition, Maria Teresa Di Mattia, Director General of ACaMIR, and Oreste Orvitti, head of the Poli Museali at the Foundation FS Italiane, were present to unveil the plans.
