Tinubu: I’ve redeemed promises to Super Eagles, Falcons, D’Tigress

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fulfilled his promises to Nigerian athletes, including the Super Eagles, Super Falcons, and D’Tigress, following their recent successful performances in international competitions. Earlier this year, the D’Tigress won the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket title, while the Super Falcons secured their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco.

In response to these victories, the President had promised the athletes various rewards, ranging from national honors to cash incentives and housing in Abuja.

Tinubu recently confirmed on his X handle that he has kept his promises. He stated, "a promise made must be a promise kept," and revealed that each D’Tigress player received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while each official was awarded the equivalent of $50,000. This marks the first time a Federal Government has fulfilled such a scale of sporting rewards within a year.

The President explained that the delay was due to the legal process of ensuring every commitment was properly implemented, which took time, but emphasized that a promise made must be kept.

Moreover, Tinubu mentioned that the outstanding cash rewards for the Super Falcons have been completed, and their players and officials have already received the title documents for their house allocations and National Honours certificates. He also confirmed that the promises made to the Super Eagles players have been redeemed. The President highlighted that athletes who bring honor to Nigeria deserve more than just applause; they deserve a country that keeps its word.

He concluded by reiterating his promise to every Nigerian athlete: "Make Nigeria proud, and come back to a grateful Nation."
