Thai mother questions son’s reported suicide at ex-husband’s home in Prachin Buri

A Thai mother is requesting an investigation into her 15-year-old son's death, which was initially reported as a suicide at his ex-husband's home in Prachin Buri province. The 39-year-old mother, whose identity is undisclosed, expressed her doubts about the circumstances surrounding Leo's reported suicide on August 3. She had raised Leo herself until he moved to Prachin Buri in 2024 for his education.

Despite their separation, they maintained regular contact. The mother described her son as quiet and never noticed any unusual behavior. Prior to the incident, Leo had visited Pattaya with his father and returned appearing joyful. According to the mother, her ex-husband's girlfriend informed her on August 3 that her son had committed suicide by shooting himself in the forehead with a gun.

She was told that he had used his left hand, despite being right-handed, and that a suicide note was found inside the house. The mother rushed to the scene but arrived too late to witness Leo's body being removed. She questioned the authenticity of the suicide note, stating that the handwriting did not resemble her son's and that the language was unlike his typical writing.

The note also allegedly contained denials of wrongdoing and a request for privacy. The mother raised concerns about the timeline of the incident, stating that her ex-husband, his girlfriend, and Leo returned home from Pattaya between midnight and 1 am. She reported that her son allegedly retrieved the firearm from a drawer, with his death believed to have occurred between 2 am and 3 am.

However, people in nearby rooms claimed they did not hear a gunshot. The investigation into the firearm found no fingerprints or DNA belonging to Leo, despite the case being ruled as a suicide. The mother emphasized that she does not wish to accuse anyone and only seeks a clear answer regarding the cause of her son's death.
