Taylor aims to make Wales a force in deaf football

James Taylor, former Swansea City youth player and now Wales Deaf men's football manager, aims to make Wales a force in deaf football. After re-establishing the team in 2023, they faced setbacks, including losses in their first three matches against England, Scotland, and Ireland. In 2024, the team struggled further, losing all four group games at the EuroDeaf Championships.

This led to a change in backroom staff and the appointment of Taylor as head coach. Taylor, who had a promising career with Swansea City but was forced to retire due to total deafness in his left ear, understands the challenges faced by the team. He started his football journey at Afan Lido and progressed through various clubs before making his first appearance for Wales Deaf men's team at the age of 43.

Taylor's goal is to build a competitive team and lead Wales to success in international competitions, including the Deaf International Football Association Deaf Football World Cup and the 2028 European Deaf Football Championships in Italy.
