Tamboran (TBN) Sells First Beetaloo Gas. Can Take-or-Pay Demand Support Scale?

Tamboran Resources Corporation, trading as TBN on the NYSE, has commenced the sale of gas from its Shenandoah South Pilot Project into Australia's Northern Territory network. This marks the first gas sales from the Beetaloo Basin and signifies a pivotal moment in the project's revenue generation. The Sturt Plateau Compression Facility, with a capacity of around 48.5 million cubic feet per day, has contracted supply of approximately 38.8 million cubic feet per day, beginning early 2027 under a take-or-pay agreement with the Northern Territory Government.

These figures represent gross project volumes. Initial deliveries serve to reduce uncertainty surrounding the physical connection between the resource and its market. The gas sales agreement includes a fixed price linked to annual adjustments based on Australia's Consumer Price Index, providing a steadier revenue stream compared to reliance on spot-market demand, though the specific price remains undisclosed.

This pilot project not only creates an opportunity for Tamboran to learn while generating sales but also tests the feasibility of sustaining production levels, which requires additional drilling expenditure and dependable facility uptime. Financing the project through the September 2025 facility package, providing up to A$179.8 million, creates refinancing exposure if operating cash generation falls short.

The broader expansion plans also necessitate additional pipeline capacity and capital. While the positive outlook for Tamboran Resources Corporation is bolstered by this milestone, sustained profitability will depend on various factors, including realized selling prices, royalties, production expenses, processing charges, and transportation costs.
