Sybiha on strike against Bunge plant in Dnipro: part of Russia's systematic terror against US business, interests

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha has accused Russian occupation forces of launching a strike on a Bunge oil extraction plant in Dnipro, describing it as part of a systematic terror campaign against American business and U.S. economic interests. Sybiha stated that the attack, which occurred recently and resulted in casualties, underscores the urgent need to strengthen Ukraine's air defense and increase pressure on Russia to end the war and engage in meaningful diplomacy.

The Dnipropetrovsk oil extraction plant, owned by U.S. company Bunge, is a significant asset for the company, which is one of the world's largest agribusiness firms. Bunge, along with Cargill, ADM, and Louis Dreyfus, forms the "ABCD" group of global grain traders and has been operating in Ukraine since 2002. The company's Ukrainian operations include subsidiaries, a grain elevator network, a port terminal in Mykolaiv, and the Dnipropetrovsk oil extraction plant, which produces the popular Oleyna oil brand.

Russian occupation forces have previously targeted the Dnipropetrovsk plant multiple times, with one such attack in early January spilling 300 tonnes of oil onto the streets of Dnipro. Sybiha has previously called the recent attack deliberate, noting that Russian forces have repeatedly attempted to strike the facility. Bunge's Ukrainian assets also include the Vinnytsia oil extraction plant (ViOi), which was approved for acquisition in 2025, further expanding the company's production capacity in the Ukrainian market.
