Stefan Küng wins the individual time trial on stage 18 of Vuelta a España

Veteran cyclist Mikel Landa secured a crucial stage victory in the penultimate race of the Vuelta a Espana, while leader Enric Mas edged closer to capturing the coveted title. Mas, who boasts a four-time winner Primoz Roglic by over two minutes, faces only the final day, a relaxed stage, to clinch the competition. If Mas maintains his position on Sunday, he will become the first Spaniard to claim this prestigious race since Alberto Contador secured his third Vuelta title in 2014.

Landa himself ended a nine-year stage win drought, and his first in the Vuelta since 2015. A three-man breakaway consisting of Landa, Norway's Tobias Johannessen, and Felix Gall dominated the mountainous 186.8km route from La Calahorra to Collado del Alguacil. Landa crossed the finish line 47 seconds ahead of Johannessen, while Gall trailed by just a few seconds.

Despite a series of attacks from Richard Carapaz, Mas held his lead in the overall standings, while Sepp Kuss made significant progress, climbing from 11th to fifth overall. With the final stage set to take place in Granada, Mas remains the frontrunner to claim his first Grand Tour title after being a runner-up three times previously.
