SK Group chief to visit AI data center under construction in Ulsan

SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won is set to tour an AI data center under construction in Ulsan later this week, according to industry sources. The visit is scheduled for Friday, where Chey and other participants will explore the site and assess the project's advancement. The planned data center, a joint venture between SK Group and Amazon Web Services (AWS), is budgeted at 7 trillion won ($5.2 billion) and aims to commence operations in the latter half of 2027.

The facility is engineered to facilitate high-performance computing through the use of graphics processing units (GPUs) and incorporates advanced hybrid cooling systems for enhanced efficiency compared to traditional data centers. SK Group intends to leverage the Ulsan data center as a central hub to attract AI companies, generate employment opportunities, and foster manufacturing innovation, positioning the industrial city as a new growth engine.
