Singapore's Aster plans to raise naphtha cracker utilisation, executive says

The Chandra Asri-Glencore joint venture will also start to supply petrochemicals to buyers

Singapore's Aster Chemicals and Energy, a joint venture between Indonesia's Chandra Asri and trading giant Glencore, is set to increase the utilization rate of its naphtha-fed steam cracker, according to a company executive.

Currently, the naphtha cracker operates at a rate fluctuating between 75% to 80% of its capacity over the past five months. Andre Khor, the CFO and Deputy CEO of Aster, announced this during a Reuters interview at the APPEC conference on September 10th.

The 1.1 million metric tonne per year cracker is located on Singapore's Bukom Island, where Aster also operates a refining hub, which it acquired from Shell in April 2025. Khor mentioned that Aster is now beginning to supply petrochemicals to its customers.
