SBI MF launches ‘Aarambh’ for first-time investors

Aarambh ensures a fully digital experience for individuals without a PAN, a segment that until now could invest only through physical, paper-based processes

SBI MF launches ‘Aarambh’ for first-time investors

SBI Mutual Fund, India's largest mutual fund company, introduced Aarambh, a digital onboarding service aimed at simplifying the investment journey for first-time investors. The service, meaning 'a beginning,' was developed based on the insight that many new investors require guidance and an easy onboarding experience to become ready for investment.

Aarambh allows SBI branch officials, authorised representatives, SBI MF Relationship Managers, or Mutual Fund Distribution Partners to support prospective investors throughout the onboarding process, from the first conversation to completing the first investment in a single digital session. The service also incorporates Aadhaar-based biometric eKYC and eSign, a first for mutual fund onboarding.

Traditionally, onboarding has been dependent on one-time passwords, which might be cumbersome or not available for some investors who do not have an Aadhaar-linked mobile number. With Aarambh, a fingerprint completes the onboarding process swiftly and conveniently, while an OTP-based route remains available for those who prefer it.

Notably, Aarambh provides a fully digital experience for individuals without a PAN, a group that previously could only invest through paper-based methods. First-time investors can also start with Jan Nivesh, a scheme allowing SIPs as low as ₹250 per month. Debasish Mishra, MD & CEO of SBI Funds Management, stated that Aarambh combines assisted guidance, secure biometric authentication, and digital onboarding to make the initial step more accessible.

This reflects SBI's commitment to providing clarity and trust to first-time investors as they venture into the mutual fund ecosystem and embark on their investment journey. RS Srinivas Jain, Head of Strategy, Digital, IT, and IR, explained that integrating assisted onboarding with biometric authentication simplifies the entry point for individuals unfamiliar with existing onboarding processes.

The goal is to create digital experiences that encourage participation while ensuring transparency and trust, which investors typically expect.
