QFFD attends preparatory meeting for midterm review of Doha Programme of Action

Doha, Qatar - Qatar Fund for Development Director General Fahad bin Hamad Al-Sulaiti engaged in a virtual preparatory meeting for the Africa Ministerial Regional Preparatory Meeting on September 8-9, 2026. The meeting, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, gathered African Least Developed Countries and their international and regional allies to evaluate the Doha Programme of Action's implementation and align regional priorities prior to the High-Level Midterm Comprehensive Review Summit.

Discussions during the preparatory meeting shed light on the significant structural and financial challenges confronting African Least Developed Countries. These include widening financing gaps, limited fiscal space, burgeoning debt burdens, heightened climate-related vulnerabilities, and the urgent need to bolster productive capacities and resilience while advancing sustainable graduation.

Al-Sulaiti emphasized the critical importance of narrowing financing gaps and fostering international collaborations to foster sustainable development and graduation in Least Developed Countries. He stressed the necessity of leveraging innovative and flexible financing mechanisms to broaden productive capacities, enhance economic resilience, and preserve the hard-won development gains of these nations.

Moreover, Al-Sulaiti underscored the significance of reinforced international cooperation and partnerships in assisting countries throughout their developmental and graduation trajectories. He advocated for predictable, long-term financing that adapts to evolving developmental requirements.
