Purdue forward Trey Kaufman-Renn enters NCAA Transfer Portal

Purdue forward Trey Kaufman-Renn, a five-year veteran at the Boilermakers, has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal in search of an extra season of eligibility. The Indiana native missed the 2021-22 season due to injury and filed a lawsuit against the NCAA to secure a sixth year. A temporary restraining order granted him the opportunity to join another college program while the legal proceedings continued.

If the court rules in his favor, Kaufman-Renn could play another season of college basketball. A native of Sellersburg, Indiana, Kaufman-Renn made 147 career appearances for Purdue, averaging 11.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. His stellar performance earned him First Team All-Big Ten honors in 2025. The implementation of a new age-based eligibility model complicated his situation, but the court's decision may grant him an additional year.

The Minnesota Timberwolves drafted Kaufman-Renn in the sixth round of the 2026 NBA Draft, but his attorney stated he had not signed a professional contract with the team. With 147 career appearances, All-Big Ten honors, and proven production at the Power Five level, Kaufman-Renn becomes an attractive option in the transfer portal, with potential opportunities to return to Purdue or explore other programs interested in adding an experienced frontcourt player.
