Police officer who shot his wife surrenders after overnight standoff

On 10 September 2026, police in Chonburi took into custody a Bang Lamung police officer who had shot his wife, a teacher at a kindergarten school. The officer, Sub-Lt. Thatsaphong, also known as "Pol. Lt. O," surrendered to police at around 06:20 on the same day, putting an end to an overnight standoff. His son, Police Sgt. Rachata, known as "Folk," had returned from southern Thailand after learning about the incident and spent the night outside the house, attempting to persuade his father to surrender.

At approximately 05:00, Rachata continued to communicate with his father both by phone and through a loudspeaker, urging him to come out and surrender while assuring him that no one would harm him. He reminded his father that they had only recently parted ways before the shooting took place. Initially, Thatsaphong responded to his son's calls and spoke privately with him but refused to leave the house. Rachata eventually requested a face-to-face meeting, which was arranged under police supervision.

The two men met halfway between the house and the designated area and engaged in a 30-minute conversation before negotiations were successful. Exhausted-looking, Thatsaphong surrendered peacefully, without any further violence or casualties. Police took him to the Bang Lamung Police Station for questioning and further legal proceedings.

Bang Lamung police chief, Pol. Col. Sarawut Nuchanart, confirmed that Thatsaphong surrendered without incident and that the suspect had not been carrying a firearm at the time of his surrender. He informed police where the weapon was located and allowed officers to collect it as evidence. Sarawut mentioned that Thatsaphong appeared exhausted and was still under considerable stress, and that the investigation would proceed according to legal procedures. The area around the officer's home has since returned to normal and has been declared safe.
