PM orders survey to boost Apna Ghar Scheme

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered provincial chief secretaries to conduct a comprehensive survey of properties that could be used to facilitate loans under the PM's Apna Ghar Scheme. This follows the approval of over 53,000 loans, amounting to Rs45.4bn, among 8,700 applicants. The PM assured the new AJK Prime Minister of full federal support.

The Access to Finance Plan 2026-2028 was discussed, with the PM stating affordable housing for low-income and middle-class segments is the top priority. So far, the scheme has received 147,504 applications, of which 53,127 were approved, with a total value of Rs313.42bn in approved loan applications and Rs45.43bn disbursed to 8,739 applicants.

A survey system is being developed to identify mortgageable plots, with Islamabad as the pilot city. The government also aims to involve renowned housing developers to streamline the Apna Ghar Scheme. Banks and financial institutions are urged to play a role in extending loans to farmers, SMEs, and the housing sector. The agriculture sector was highlighted as the backbone of the economy, and the government is committed to promoting its development.

Easy and uninterrupted access to financial resources for farmers is a priority. Under the Zarkhez-e app, 35,838 applications have been received for easy access to loans, with Rs7.35bn approved and Rs1.96bn disbursed. Similarly, the SME sector has a target of Rs2tr by June 2028, with a current lending volume of Rs1.067tr. The Deputy Prime Minister attended the meeting, along with federal ministers, the State Bank of Pakistan Governor, and other senior officials.

PM Shehbaz also met with the newly elected AJK Prime Minister, expressing full cooperation for the welfare and development of the territory.
