OTTAWA - Prime Minister Mark Carney has spoken to U.S. President Donald Trump a few times over the last few days, as tensions in the trade war between the two nations continue to rise, according to Carney. At a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Carney revealed that he and Trump have discussed the escalating situation.

The Prime Minister's Office confirmed the leaders' conversations but declined to disclose further details. The trade dispute between Canada and the U.S. intensified after talks to finalize a trade agreement collapsed in mid-August. In response to the breakdown of talks, Trump imposed 50% duties on $28 billion worth of Canadian products, while Canada retaliated by introducing tariffs on certain U.S. goods this week.
