Plot twist: North Korea’s heir apparent might have competition, says Seoul spy agency

SEOUL, September 10 — The South Korean spy agency, the National Intelligence Service (NIS), has reported that North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un's daughter, Kim Ju Ae, may have a younger sibling, potentially altering the succession line. Prior to this revelation, South Korea had only confirmed that Kim Jong Un had three children, with the exact order of their birth remaining uncertain.

The NIS has been assessing Kim Ju Ae as the successor to her father, Kim Jong Un, who has ruled North Korea in its third generation. The agency stated that Kim Ju Ae is being groomed for leadership, but acknowledged that if her younger sibling exists, he or she is not in a position to become the successor. The NIS emphasized that they are continuing to investigate the possibility of Kim Ju Ae having an older brother.

Experts suggest that Kim Jong Un, despite not being the eldest son, chose his daughter as successor based on her potential to continue his legacy. Ju Ae has been seen alongside her father at numerous political events, including a significant visit to Beijing. She has been referred to as "the beloved child" and a "great person of guidance" by North Korean state media, terms typically reserved for top leaders and their successors.

Prior to 2022, the existence of Kim Ju Ae was only hinted at by former NBA star Dennis Rodman. She has been noted for her fashion choices, often seen in luxury brands like Gucci and Cartier, and has mirrored her father's distinctive style.
