PH ready for any scenario in Melaka polls, says Amirudin

Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh has boldly proclaimed his intention to abstain from the upcoming Melaka state election if Barisan Nasional (BN) chooses to collaborate with Pakatan Harapan (PH). In a recent statement, the Merlimau assemblyman boldly challenged PH to contest all 28 seats independently. Dr. Akmal maintains that PH has no reason to seek a partnership with BN, despite the state's BN chairman, Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh, keeping the door open to possible discussions.

The current Melaka government's mandate expires on December 31, necessitating a state election within 60 days. Rumors have surfaced that the state assembly might be dissolved by the end of the month, with this possible dissolution occurring "two more Fridays" from now. However, Rauf has reaffirmed that BN remains open to negotiations with any potential strategic partner, but a final decision will only be made when the appropriate moment arrives.

Both PH and Perikatan Nasional (PN) are actively seeking an alliance with BN, which currently holds 20 of the 28 seats in the Melaka assembly. While PH and BN maintain federal-level alliances, tensions have risen since BN's decision to join forces with PN in the Negeri Sembilan state election, resulting in a two-thirds majority win.
