Obi: Why I can’t step down for Atiku

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has firmly stated that he will not step down for his fellow opposition candidate, Atiku Abubakar, ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Obi emphasized that any decision on an opposition alliance should be made by the political parties themselves, not individual candidates.

He clarified that both Obi and Atiku are now presidential candidates of separate parties, making the issue a matter of party cooperation rather than personal negotiation. The Nigeria Democratic Congress candidate also dismissed speculation that he might accept the position of vice-president if an agreement was reached with Atiku, denying previous statements that he had previously rejected such an offer.
