North West ADC gov’ship candidates tackle incumbents on performance

As the 2027 general elections approach, the governorship candidates of the seven North West states under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors in the region. They argue that the current APC leaders have failed to address the region's poverty issues and improve living conditions for citizens.

Speaking on behalf of the candidates, former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, unveiled a blueprint for the socio-economic emancipation of the region. Malami highlighted the stark contrast between the region's poor state and the obscene affluence of the APC governors, who live in luxury while neglecting the needs of the common people.

The "Northwest ADC Governorship Candidates' Compact 2027–2031" aims to protect citizens by reforming public resources and managing them responsibly. Malami pointed out that the region has been plagued by insecurity, with over 16,000 lives lost due to violence between 2023 and 2026, and more than 10,000 people displaced from their homes and farms.

Additionally, more than 533,000 hectares of farmland in Zamfara and Katsina are now abandoned, leading to widespread hunger and the out-of-school crisis. The ADC governors have committed to reorienting governance to combat this crisis and restore peace, security, and normalcy to the region. They have pledged to reform with responsibility, provide relief with accountability, and ensure public resources deliver measurable improvements in citizens' lives.

The candidates also pledged their support for the ADC Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who promised to restore fuel subsidy.
