Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 System Update 23.0.0 Released — Here Are the Full Patch Notes

Nintendo has updated the firmware for both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 consoles to version 23.0.0 on September 10, 2026. The update brings several new features and improvements, particularly for the Nintendo Switch 2.

For the Switch 2, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support has been added when playing in TV mode. This feature relies on the TV's compatibility, but if supported, users can toggle VRR on. Additionally, a system transfer between two Switch 2 consoles has been introduced, allowing users to move all data, including save data and screenshots, from one console to another.

Other features for the Switch 2 include an expanded "GameChat" feature that displays previously participated chats, a button to change screen size during chats, and a "Settings" option for virtual game cards. The console now supports complete data transfer between two Switch 2 consoles, and the audio "TV Sound" settings are saved for each connected TV.

Accessibility improvements have been made for the Switch 2, including Portuguese (Brazil) support for text-to-speech and voice-to-text conversion. The "Audio" - "TV Sound" settings are now saved per connected TV, and a "VRR Settings" option has been added to the Display section. A new Mii feature allows users to create a QR code and share it with others. Additionally, a switch to play and check sound when changing volume is available under "Sleep" → "Sleep wake-up sound when playing on TV".

The Switch 2 now includes a "System" option to toggle handheld mode boost in quick settings, which can be turned on or off via the HOME button long-press menu. Users can also play background music in the Mii editing screen and aggregate play time for the same software across multiple consoles.

For the Switch 1, the update adds a "Settings" option for virtual game cards and allows temporary software play using an online license if another console is offline. The update also addresses several issues and improves operational stability.
