Nintendo Announces New Switch Sale Made Possible By "Tariff-Related" Refunds

Nintendo has introduced a new Customer Appreciation Sale in the U.S., offering 30% discounts on dozens of Switch games and other products starting from September 13 until September 26. The promotion includes select games, downloadable content, accessories, amiibo, and apparel available on the Nintendo eShop, Nintendo Store, and other participating retailers. Nintendo claims the sale is partially made possible by refunds related to tariffs.

The company says it absorbed most of the tariff-related costs, but the refunds have helped make promotions like the new sale feasible. Nintendo previously faced questions about what it would do with the money returned after the US tariff regime was challenged. After a court ruled the tariffs illegal, the company raised the prices of some Switch products globally, citing factors like tariffs, rising component costs, labor, and shipping.

Nintendo stated that customers were not entitled to refunds for purchases at those higher prices, as they had received exactly what they bargained for, and the company was not required to retroactively adjust prices following the outcome of the tariff litigation.

Nintendo maintains that it absorbed the tariff costs on the Switch 2, rather than passing them directly on to consumers. However, the latest promotion has received mixed fan reactions. Despite this, it has been a significant week for Nintendo fans, with back-to-back Nintendo Directs, preorders for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Metroid Dread going live, and the anticipated 40th Anniversary Zelda Switch 2 announcement.

Additionally, Nintendo has released a fresh firmware update for its Switch and Switch 2 consoles, adding VRR support while playing Switch 2 in TV mode.
