Nigel Farage has never been far from danger his entire career

Throughout his career, Nigel Farage has consistently found himself in precarious situations. In 1982, he began his professional journey at Drexel, a notorious US investment bank, as a commodities trader. However, Drexel's demise eight years later, following the imprisonment of its senior executive Michael Milken, was a stark reminder of the dangers of working in the financial sector.

Farage's career took a turn when he joined Credit Lyonnais in 1986. The French bank's acquisition of struggling US insurance business Executive Life through an illicit ownership structure concealed its true control over the business. This move eventually led to Credit Lyonnais settling a hefty $771 million in connection with false statements to regulators.

In 1994, Farage shifted his focus to Refco, a New York-based broker. Unfortunately, Refco's collapse shortly after, due to its British chief executive concealing over $400 million in bad debts, added another incident to Farage's list of near misses.

Farage's tenure at Natixis, a French investment firm, came to an end in 2003 when the firm revealed a $600 million exposure to Bernie Madoff's Ponzi scheme. Madoff's subsequent imprisonment further underscored the risks associated with Farage's professional affiliations.

Today, Farage's nascent political party, Reform UK, is embroiled in a police investigation over the handling of donations, which could potentially be deemed illegal. Farage and the party maintain their innocence. Despite these repeated encounters with danger, Farage has never been accused of directly participating in any criminal activities. However, his career trajectory suggests that as he strives to make a political impact, he may face unforeseen obstacles.
