NEET UG Protest Case: ‘We will not re-constitute high-powered committee,’ says Supreme Court

Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng, an online pastor, and his wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah, have seen their fraud-related charges against them withdrawn from the Circuit Courts in Accra. The couple is accused of defrauding women through romance scams on their Instagram page, Nana Bonsu Kwarteng, which they allegedly ran with 21,000 followers.

The charges include conspiracy to commit fraud by false pretences, making, producing and possessing obscene material, defrauding by false pretences, resisting arrest, and creating the impression of a legitimate business. The prosecution alleged that Kwarteng contacted women on Instagram, proposing marriage and visiting their families, while collecting varying amounts of money under false pretences, some of which were used to purchase car tyres.

Sally allegedly participated in the online services, read Bible passages and displayed scripture verses, and was aware of her husband's activities. Despite their denial of the charges, Sally was released on bail with a GH¢100,000 surety, requiring her to report to the case investigator every Monday and Friday. The couple has been accused of using secretly recorded sexual videos to blackmail victims demanding refunds.

The prosecutor also mentioned that several other women had reportedly fallen victim to Kwarteng's activities since 2021.
