National Intermediate Games postponed to Q1 of 2027 – Official

The inaugural National Intermediate Games, originally planned for October 1 to 15, 2026 in Lagos, have been postponed to the first quarter of 2027. This decision was made by the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) after a thorough review conducted by the Local Organising Committee, the National Sports Commission (NSC), and an independent Quality Control and Assurance Specialist.

The review, which took place following a Joint Technical Meeting from September 3 to 6, 2026, concluded that while the Games could technically occur, the time remaining was deemed insufficient to meet the desired standards for an inaugural event. The NSC emphasized that this postponement is necessary to ensure the quality, credibility, and long-term success of the Games, which are expected to set an operational benchmark for future editions.

Despite the postponement, the NSC stated that their preparations for the Games will continue as planned, including activities such as accreditation and zonal elimination for team sports. The Lagos State, as the host, remains committed to staging the event and will proceed with preparations in collaboration with the NSC and other stakeholders pending the announcement of a new date by the Local Organising Committee.
