Nanyuki Bus Park overhaul: Traders and passengers put on notice as redevelopment begins

Traders, passengers, and transport operators at Nanyuki bus park have been informed that redevelopment of the facility is underway, with the county government promising a significant transformation. Launched on September 10, 2026, the project aims to modernize the bus park by adding a new bus stage and business stores, fundamentally altering the way traders, passengers, and public service vehicles operate within the hub.

Henry Wagichere, chairman of Nanyuki Bus Park, urged all stakeholders to cooperate with authorities during the redevelopment, emphasizing the importance of setting aside political disagreements to focus on the project's success. He also stressed the need for traders and operators to take responsibility for the facility's condition and improve waste management practices.

The governor, Joshua Irungu, explained that the redevelopment aligns with broader efforts to address traffic congestion in Nanyuki, a town experiencing rapid growth and increased commercial activity. One of the planned interventions includes constructing a road through the courts area, offering an alternative route for motorists heading towards Meru.

The new business stores will provide designated spaces for small traders, potentially altering the way businesses are allocated and operated within the bus park. For traders, the challenge will be ensuring the new commercial spaces remain accessible and affordable, especially during and after construction. Passengers, meanwhile, anticipate a cleaner, safer, and better-organized facility, with a modern stage potentially improving boarding, alighting, and vehicle movement.
