Nairobi lawyer arrested over forgery, assault on cops

Benard Odero Okello, a lawyer from Benard Odero & Company Advocates, was arrested in Nairobi for allegedly forging documents and assaulting police officers. The arrest followed a directive from the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to charge him. Three Kenya County Government Workers Union officials, Nairobi Branch, discovered that Okello had presented false documents before the Nairobi Employment and Labour Relations Court, claiming they had signed an agreement for him to be paid Sh150 million upon the conclusion of a case he represented them in.

However, the complainants disputed having signed the agreement. Forensic analysis confirmed the documents were forged, supporting the complainants' claims. As a result, Okello was charged with two counts of forgery and uttering a false document. When summoned to the Parklands Police Station, he refused to appear, leading to a manhunt that resulted in his arrest at his office.

In an attempt to evade capture, Okello threatened to jump from the 8th floor of his office and subsequently attacked two police officers who were attempting to arrest him. He faces additional charges of resisting arrest and assaulting police officers.
