In a disappointing season-opening loss, New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye admitted to accepting full blame for the costly mistake that led to the team's 13-10 defeat against the Seattle Seahawks. As the game entered its fourth quarter with a 10-7 score, Maye orchestrated a potential game-winning drive, hoping to secure a win with either a touchdown or a field goal.

However, his end zone pass was intercepted by Seahawks cornerback Josh Jobe, effectively ending the Patriots' hopes of victory. Maye expressed his frustration, stating, "I lost patience, and it cost us. I think just, decisions that cost us the game on my part... It's a long season, but at the same time, you can’t have those; it’s unacceptable."

The 23-of-33 completion from Maye yielded 178 yards and one touchdown, but he also threw three interceptions, with the Seahawks' defense prevailing. The loss, which came after Seattle lost their Super Bowl-winning quarterback, Sam Darnold, early in the first quarter, highlighted the need for improvement for the Patriots as they prepare to face the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 20.
