Man cuts off own finger over N80m ‘occult deal’

The Kano State Police Command has apprehended five individuals, among them a young man who mutilated his finger after being offered ₦80 million in an alleged occult deal. On August 29, 2026, 27-year-old Yusuf Mahmuda approached the police station to report the incident. According to police spokesman, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspect claimed that someone had requested him to acquire a living human finger in return for the substantial sum of money.

Unable to locate a suitable finger, Yusuf reportedly used a knife to amputate his left-hand finger and handed it over to the person making the demand. He subsequently informed the police that he had not received the promised amount. Investigations subsequently led to the arrest of four additional suspects, including Abdurrahman Abbas, 45, from Kwassangami, Abubakar Iliyasu, 35, from Zangon Dakata, Shu'aibu Awale, 55, from Daganawa, and Ishaka Isa, 26, all residents of Rano.

The police recovered the severed finger, the knife used in the act, and apprehended the alleged mastermind. On Wednesday, all five suspects were brought before the Sharia Court in Jogana, Gezawa Local Government Area, charged with criminal conspiracy and attempted witchcraft.
