Majority of British adults approve of settlement ban, YouGov survey says

A YouGov survey conducted on October 9, 2026, has found that the majority of British adults approve of the UK government's decision to ban the import of goods from Israeli settlements in the West Bank. The poll, based on a survey of 4,506 UK adults, revealed that 52% of respondents supported the ban, while 33% were fully in favor and 19% somewhat supported it. A smaller portion, 10%, completely disagreed with the ban, and 7% somewhat disagreed. However, 31% of those surveyed were unsure about their stance.

Political affiliations showed a range of approval levels. The Green Party supporters showed the strongest backing, with 82% in favor of the ban, with 59% approving "completely" and 23% "somewhat." Labour party supporters also largely approved, with 47% accepting it "completely" and 22% "somewhat," totaling 69% approval. The Conservative party, on the other hand, only had 38% approval, with 17% approving "completely" and 21% "somewhat," with 34% disapproval (12% "somewhat"). Reform party supporters were the least supportive, with 46% disapproval and 31% unsure.

The sanctions announced by the UK government included recognizing the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in the West Bank, declaring the Israeli occupation illegal, and implementing sanctions on Israeli settlements. Eleven other countries joined Britain in this stance, committing to national and/or European restrictions on trade with settlements, which are deemed illegal under international law.

In response, Israel threatened to close the British consulate in East Jerusalem, remove British representatives from the International Gaza Support Center, cease training Palestinian forces, and ban British MPs from entering the country.
