Mahama calls on GFA, clubs to raise standard of domestic football

President John Dramani Mahama has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and football club administrators to take immediate action to enhance the quality of domestic football and revive the nation's disbanded Colts League. The President emphasized that bolstering the local game is crucial for nurturing young talent and ensuring that promising Ghanaian footballers acquire ample experience before relocating abroad.

Mahama issued this appeal during a meeting with representatives of Medeama SC, Nations FC, and Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC on September 9. He argued that Ghana must foster an environment that enables young players to mature locally, gain competitive exposure, and be better equipped for international football before securing transfers to foreign clubs.

"We must devise a strategy to retain our talented players for longer periods, provide them with opportunities in the national team, grant them international exposure, and then permit them to pursue opportunities abroad once they have matured," Mahama stated. He stressed that extending the careers of promising players would allow them to refine their skills and amass the experience necessary to compete at the highest levels.
