Mac's Edge Light Feature Rumored to Expand to iPhone

macOS 26.2 introduced an Edge Light feature to Mac computers with M1 chip or later models. Recently, there have been rumors that this functionality may be expanded to the iPhone. A source known as pdfu has been examining Apple's code updates, and found that the iOS 27 Release Candidate suggests the feature will be included in the iPhone Duo.

However, the feature is still under development, as the color temperature setting has not been fully implemented. On Macs, Edge Light illuminates the screen's edges to evenly light the user's face in dimly lit environments. The function is essentially a virtual ring light and users can adjust the width of the white line around the screen and a color temperature slider to change the light's warmth.

In regards to iPhone, iOS 27 RC locks the feature behind a device subtype that points to iPhone Duo. The color temperature setting is not fully implemented. A video demonstration of the feature on a simulated iPhone shows that the function will likely operate similarly and include the same brightness and color temperature options on the iPhone.

It is still uncertain if Edge Light will be accessible on the iPhone Duo upon its release on October 23rd, or if the feature will be extended to other iPhone models. Several of pdfu's previous Apple code discoveries have proven to be accurate, so their predictions are generally reliable.
