Let your reasoning and fairness define your legacy – Mahama to new justices

President John Mahama encouraged three newly sworn-in Supreme Court justices to prioritize their reasoning, fairness, and loyalty to the Constitution when defining their legacy. At the swearing-in ceremony on September 10 at the Jubilee House, the President emphasized that the justices must concentrate on the quality of their legal analysis and the fairness of their decisions.

He cautioned against allowing external pressures, political motivations, or criticism to sway their judgments, especially in emotionally charged cases. Mahama reminded the justices that their decisions directly affect the lives of ordinary Ghanaians, whose rights and futures may be at stake in each case. He advised the new justices to approach their work with humility, patience, and careful examination of the law before making their decisions.

The President urged them to prioritize justice and the national interest above all else. Mahama expressed his congratulations to Justice Sophia Rosetta Bernasko Essah, Justice Edward Amoako Asante, and Anthony Forson Jnr, stressing their crucial role in upholding Ghana's democracy and rule of law. He wished them a successful and distinguished tenure on the Supreme Court, urging them to serve with wisdom, integrity, and independence.
