Layang-Layang Aerospace voluntarily grounds BO-105 fleet after Sarawak helicopter crash

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 — Layang-Layang Aerospace Sdn Bhd has ceased all operations of its entire fleet of BO 105 helicopters and other aircraft with Rolls-Royce 250-series engines, as a precautionary safety measure following a tragic helicopter crash in Sarawak that claimed five lives. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) announced the decision, stressing it was a precautionary measure, not an indication of technical failure.

The helicopter's Certificate of Airworthiness was valid until Aug 4, 2027, and its Certificate of Registration until July 28, 2029. CAAM will continue to monitor the operator's grounding and inspection program, along with verifying relevant regulatory, operator, and pilot records. The Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is conducting an independent investigation into the crash. The public and media are urged to refrain from speculating until the investigation concludes.
