Kyle Larson to honor Kyle Busch with throwback paint scheme at Las Vegas

The No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet will feature a special paint scheme for the October 4 NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Kyle Larson will drive this throwback design to pay tribute to the late Kyle Busch, who raced the No. 5 car for Hendrick Motorsports from 2005 to 2007. Busch's original scheme consisted of yellow, blue, and red colors, using Carquest and Kellogg's sponsors, which Larson will replicate, only substituting Hendrickcars.com as the sponsor.

The scheme is based on Busch's 2007 car, which he won the inaugural Car of Tomorrow race at Bristol—his final victory as a Hendrick driver. Larson expressed his admiration for Busch, noting their shared number and Busch's role as a mentor to his children, which resonated with Larson's own parenting journey. The team has secured permission from HendrickCars.com and the Busch family to utilize this tribute scheme at Las Vegas, aiming to honor Busch's legacy and impact on the sport.

Both Larson and Busch are recognized two-time Cup Series champions, and Larson is targeting his third title this year. A portion of the profits from merchandise sales related to the throwback paint scheme will support the Busch family's Bundle of Joy Fund. Joe Gibbs Racing is also paying tribute to Busch at the upcoming Bristol Motor Speedway event, re-introducing the iconic M&Ms color scheme once driven by Ty Gibbs.
