Korea to send 2nd disaster relief team to Nepal over floods

Korea plans to dispatch a second emergency relief team to Nepal this week in response to devastating floods and landslides, according to the foreign ministry. The eight-member Korea Disaster Relief Team (KDRT) is set to depart on a KC-330 military transport aircraft and is expected to arrive in Nepal on Friday. The team comprises officials from the ministry, firefighters, personnel from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and medical staff, with a small number of rescue personnel as well.

Their primary focus will be on reconstruction and recovery operations during their seven-day mission. The first 44-member KDRT contingent was previously dispatched to Nepal last week and is currently returning home after completing a 10-day search-and-rescue mission. Tragically, nine Koreans — including six employees of Doosan Enerbility and three from Korea South-East Power — went missing on August 26 after massive floods and landslides struck Rasuwa District near the Nepal-Tibet border while they were working at a hydropower plant construction site.

The KDRT is working in collaboration with local authorities to provide necessary support to the affected communities.
