Kofi Tonto accuses NDC government of failing to deliver promised education reset

National Communications Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kofi Tonto, has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for failing to deliver on its promise to reset Ghana's education sector. This accusation comes as chaos unfolds at the National Placement Resolution Centre at GNAT Hall in Accra, where concerned parents and students seek solutions to issues surrounding the 2026 Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

During an appearance on JoyNews AM Show on September 10, Mr Tonto asserted that the government has not introduced the substantial reforms that Ghanaians anticipated following its pledge to address long-standing education challenges. He maintained that the difficulties faced by parents during the placement process reflect deeper issues within the sector.

Mr Tonto pointed to concerns over teacher hiring, school feeding, examination results, and student placement as indicators of the government's shortcomings. He emphasized that when it comes to teachers, school feeding, results, and placement, the government has failed. He questioned the legitimacy of the government's claims of education transformation when parents continue to struggle to secure placement for their children.

Mr Tonto described the current situation as an embarrassment, comparing the parents' behavior to a scene from 2026, where they are seen desperately competing for school placements for their children. He concluded by stating that the challenges faced by teachers, students, and parents indicate that the promised educational transformation has yet to be realized.

He called for urgent action to resolve the issues confronting parents and students during the ongoing school placement exercise.
