Kodak Black Defeats Criminal Charge for Supposedly Fleeing Florida Police Officer

Kodak Black has successfully avoided a felony charge for allegedly fleeing a Florida police officer during a traffic stop. On September 8, a judge in Broward County, Florida dismissed the felony case brought against the rapper in May. Prosecutors had accused Kodak of driving off after being stopped by an officer in Pompano Beach in February.

Kodak's attorney, Bradford Cohen, argued that police bodycam footage showed no basis for the charge, as the encounter appeared to be consensual and the officer never informed Kodak he was being detained or could not leave. Cohen pointed out that the deputy never informed the defendant he was conducting a traffic stop. Prosecutors did not oppose the motion, leading Judge George Odom Jr. to dismiss the case.

The judge concluded that the facts did not establish a prima facie case for the charged offense. Despite this victory, Kodak is still facing legal troubles. In May, just weeks before his arrest, he was separately charged with drug trafficking in Orange County, Florida for allegedly trafficking MDMA. Kodak's attorney is also representing him in this case and maintains that the charge is without merit.
