KMA passes by-law requiring Metropolitan Chief Executives to occupy official residence

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) recently passed a by-law requiring all Metropolitan Chief Executives to reside in the official Mayor's residence. This decision was made following complaints that previous Chief Executives had failed to occupy the state-owned facility. The bye-law was approved unanimously at the 2nd Ordinary Meeting of the 3rd Session of the 9th Assembly.

Under the new rule, a Mayor who refuses to live in the residence could face a vote of no confidence, potentially leading to their removal from office. Assembly member Patrick Kwame Frimpong emphasized that the move would protect and preserve state property. The current Mayor, Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, welcomed the decision, noting that the building had been left in a deteriorated state due to years of neglect. The Assembly is now awaiting implementation of the by-law.
