Kenyatta University voter registration row: IEBC sets record straight

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has addressed a viral video depicting a voter registration process at Kenyatta University. Students questioned the legality of the registration, claiming the official was registering students to vote in Wajir and other counties. The IEBC clarified that every eligible Kenyan has the right to vote at any polling station of their choice.

Voter transfer services are administered at IEBC constituency offices and not at other locations. Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) occurs at all 290 constituency offices, Huduma Centres, and the Customer Experience Centre in Nairobi. IEBC deployed registration kits to strategic locations like Kenyatta University for outreach, but only issues acknowledgement slips to new registrants, not those transferring their voting stations as their details are already in the register.

The electoral body's role is to facilitate registration, not directing voters to specific polling stations. IEBC is cooperating with government agencies on the matter and reserves the right to take legal action, including arrests if necessary. The commission urges the public to refrain from interfering with its processes and to rely on official information, warning against misinformation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
