Katsina Approves N500m to Tackle Acute Malnutrition

The Katsina State Government has allocated N500 million to combat acute malnutrition among children in the region. This decision was made during the 15th Regular Meeting of the State Executive Council, chaired by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda. The Commissioner for Health, Musa Adamu, explained that the funds will be used to purchase essential nutrition commodities, ensuring that the necessary support continues for children suffering from acute malnutrition.

This initiative is part of the Radda administration's continuous efforts to enhance healthcare delivery and address the needs of vulnerable residents, particularly children. In addition to the health intervention, the council approved the procurement of 95,000 bags of assorted grains for distribution to less privileged and vulnerable residents.

Dr Salisu Bala Zango, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, stated that this move aims to mitigate the impact of current economic hardships and provide direct assistance to households in need. Furthermore, the council decided to fund the procurement and distribution of non-food items and cash assistance to vulnerable groups, including orphans, widows, persons with special needs, and other disadvantaged members of society.

Mustapha Bala Batsari, the Special Adviser on Market Development, mentioned that the council also approved the modernization of Dandume, Daura, Mashi, and Jibia markets. Batsari explained that these upgrades to the selected markets in the state's three senatorial zones will enhance commercial infrastructure, thereby improving the socio-economic wellbeing of the residents.
